Funding Higher Education and Tackling Lawsuit Abuse

Higher education funding and lawsuit abuse reform are the topics on this week's Pennsylvania Newsmakers, airing throughout the state this weekend. State System Vice Chancellor Ed Nolan discusses the impact that reduced appropriations to the State System universities would have on possible tuition hikes for system universities. He also reviewed the student aid policies of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency. On the second part of the show, State House member Mike Turzai, a Republican from the North Hills area in Allegheny County and a prime mover in the successful effort to modify state law on joint and several liability, joined Jim Redmond, Vice President of the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania, in an explanation of the legal changes and their impact on hospitals, governments and businesses. Jen Rehill of Pennsylvania Public Radio joins host G. terry Madonna for the interviews.
